Six Senses Kocataş Mansions Arrives in Istanbul
November 8, 2019 by Allison Reiber DiLiegro
This fall, Six Senses is bringing its award-winning wellness and unique sense of place to Istanbul. Set for a soft opening in November, the new Six Senses Kocataş Mansions is housed in two Ottoman-era mansions that line the Bosphorus Strait. From this prime placement, travelers can watch the famed waterway curve towards the Black Sea. Behind them, the vibrant Sariyer neighborhood awaits, ready to be explored.
The architecture and design is based on the original Kocataş Mansions, which stood on this spot in the 19th century before they were destroyed in a fire. Istanbul is a city of contradictions and the property reflects that. You’ll see east mingle with west, contemporary with historic, and local design with contemporary Six Senses style.
The 45 rooms and suites are spread across the two three-story mansions. Rooms are spacious and light-filled with antique-inspired elements that add a cinematic sense of grandeur. A brass bed frame and trunk-inspired side tables recall the Art Deco glamour of the heyday of the Orient Express. Tall taupe curtains, an inviting daybed and a marble bathroom bring elegance. Some rooms and suites offer views of the Bosphorus through soaring windows in the bedroom and, in the most coveted cases, the bathtub. The most lavish choice is the two-bedroom Kocataş Mansion suite, with generous space and spectacular Bosphorus views.
Not just a city hotel, Six Senses Kocataş Mansions calls itself an urban resort. Once the property is complete in spring 2020, guests can expect a fully-equipped spa, a modern gym and delicious, healthful cuisine. There will be two restaurants ready for soft opening, including Toro Latin GastroBar by Richard Sandoval, the restaurateur behind a global portfolio that includes Maya in New York. The menu features Pan-Latin and Asian cuisines and cocktails mixed by the in-house mixologist. For lighter bites and local pastries there’s Kahve café, set inside a gilded bohemian-style hall with views of the Bosphorus.
All guests will have a GEM (Guest Experience Maker) on hand for arrangements on property and around town. Not to be missed is a ride on the private Six Senses boat, moored outside for easy access to sunset cruises and excursions. The property is a 40-minute drive from the freshly opened Istanbul New Airport, the largest airport in the world.
After a few days in the city, the Turkish Riviera beckons. Make your journey seamless with a stay at Six Senses Kaplankaya, just across the bay from Bodrum. After the 1.5-hour flight to Bodrum, it’s 50 minutes by car, 30 minutes by boat or 10 minutes by helicopter.
Once you arrive, spend your days sailing, scuba diving, touring ancient ruins, relaxing on the beach, exploring the Mediterranean town and recharging in the world-class spa. Six Senses Kaplankaya is open from late April through November, with perfect beach weather during the summer and activities and restaurants open all season long.
