Introducing Little Palm Island Resort & Spa
August 15, 2022 by Perrie Hartz
America’s only private island resort, Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is an adults-only tropical paradise that is the perfect combination of privacy and luxury. Located just off the crystalline waters of the famous Florida Keys coastline, the island is filled with lush, verdant tropical foliage and exotic wildlife – a destination like no other. Previously known as Little Munson Island, it was once a secret retreat for well-known celebrities and politicians. After Hurricane Irma blew through in 2017, Little Palm Island was completely renovated. In summer 2020, the island, owned by Noble House Hotels & Resorts, officially re-opened and re-emerged as a sparkling new, ultra-luxurious private island resort with timeless elegance and just the right amount of contemporary feel.
Guests will either arrive by seaplane or private boat, first entering an on-shore reception lounge where they are served the resort’s famous rum and coconut “Grumpy Slumber” cocktail as a refreshing welcome drink, before being whisked away on a chic wooden motor yacht to the immersive island escape that awaits them.
Peace and relaxation are of the utmost importance on Little Palm Island—so much so that the resort still maintains its long-standing tradition of keeping phones and televisions out of all guest rooms and public areas. (WiFi is available, though cell phones must be kept on silent and usage at a minimum) As a result, guests will experience a refreshingly quiet, peaceful, and utterly unique vacation without the distractions of the outside world.
Spread across the island’s four acres of lush tropical flora and fauna are a total of 30 thatched-roof bungalow suites (there is a strict cap of 60 guests), all with vaulted ceilings, private outdoor showers (and even some with outdoor copper tubs), recently-refurbished interiors, luxurious amenities, and of course, impossibly gorgeous ocean views. The resort is thoughtfully designed and reflects a thoroughly relaxed-yet-elevated British West Indies attitude, mixed in with a bit of old world tradition with Balinese accents. Think Classic Caribbean-meets contemporary tropical-chic. All suites also have private furnished decks and most overlook private slivers of stunning white-sand beach and are dotted with hammocks, loungers, and fire pits, the perfect spot for spending a languid afternoon. More lovely little touches include tiled floors with traditional woven rugs, wood accents, a Keurig for morning coffee, binoculars, and a beach bag.
While all the suites have unique features and incredible amenities, a standout includes the spacious 1,020 square foot Island Premiere Suite on the second floor, which has even more epic views. Guests of this suite will also enjoy an expansive private deck with a standalone copper soaking tub and a private outdoor area with a fire pit. This suite also comes equip with floor-to-ceiling windows and unobstructed ocean views, a separate living room, and a king size four-poster bed with elegant butterfly netting. There are also luxurious bathrooms appointed with mother of pearl tiles, crystal sconces and chandeliers, separate shower rooms, and a boudoir tub.
While Little Palm Island has just one restaurant, guests will find they have all they need here, as they’ll enjoy world-class cuisine both in restaurant itself (considered one of the world’s top-rated) and in the privacy of their own bungalows, on the beach, and while lounging poolside. The island’s talented chef highlights the best of local ingredients, serving a seafood-centric menu for both lunch and dinner. Island-inspired dishes include Key West pink shrimp cocktail, fresh fish tacos, and coconut curry with yellowtail snapper.
For those seeking a memorable evening, the property can arrange a private toes-in-the-sand beach dining experience with customized menus and décor including tiki torches that illuminate the sparkling night sky at Sandy Point or a quintessential candlelit dinner at Harbor Point. Guests can also sharpen their knife skills and learn new recipes at The Chef Table set in an intimate enclave in the kitchen of The Dining Room.
For a leisurely afternoon aperitif, sunset cocktail or evening night cap, guests can lounge at the Palapa Bar or in the iconic Monkey Hut, a classic West Indies-inspired bar frequented by many famous faces throughout the years.
For guests who prefer lounging poolside to the saltwater and sandy beaches, the resort’s pool area is a spectacular haven of tranquility. Shaded by palms and sea grape trees, the pool is dotted with teak chaise lounges and chic beige umbrellas and lined with orchids and lush tropical foliage.
Little Palm Island also boasts SpaTerre, an award-winning indoor-outdoor spa that offers services like facials, massages, wraps, and global rituals. Other spa menu items include an exotic Four Hands Massage and CBD treatments using luxurious macadamia nut oil and organic vanilla. The healing properties of locally-sourced flowers and spices are used to enhance each guest’s wellness experience. Other fitness offerings include personal training sessions, meditation, and paddle board yoga.
And as it happens to be sitting just three miles off the coast of the Lower Keys, Little Palm Island Resort & Spa offers fantastic land and water activities, including diving at one of the most magnificent reefs in the Florida Keys, Looe Key Reef. Guests can also indulge in kayaking, snorkeling, (Little Palm Island is encompassed by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, which includes the world’s third largest barrier reef), sightseeing in a private seaplane, privately-chartered sailing trips, eco-tours, fishing, dolphin encounters, and even sky diving.
The new Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is a truly unique tropical escape in an unforgettable, awe-inspiring setting, which is perfect for those seeking to take-over the property for a wedding or special celebration. Debuting a fresh take on tropical-chic, the resort offers thoughtful amenities, outstandingly beautiful surroundings, and a commitment to privacy and relaxation that has guests dreaming of returning before they even hop on the return boat back to reality.
